From My April Workshop – Portrait of a Student

Portrait of Erica, by David A. Gilmour, Lumacraft Photography

Yesterday at my studio, I ran my workshop, Introduction to DSLR Photography and Naturally Lit Portraits. I was happy that Erica, one of my brides and portrait clients, was among the students. As part of the workshop, we went outside to practice the methods that we had been discussing. I liked this portrait of Erica that I captured while demonstrating, and spent some time finishing it today.

These Women Mean Business

2013-04-12 9-36-07 AM

As the headline says, these women mean business.  And, if I may add, they know that a good business portrait can be an investment that pays dividends.  Check out this nicely illustrated article in yesterday's Mississauga News about Pamela Rashid and Tammy Jones, and their Real Women Real Business conference, happening in Mississauga on May 4.  Lumacraft Photography is a proud to be among the event’s sponsors.

Introductory Lightroom 4 – Private Mentoring

Tonight, I am doing a private mentoring session, covering Introductory Lightroom 4. By the end of the session, my student will be up and running, confidently using the core features of Lightroom to edit and organize his images.

I love teaching photography nearly as much as I love doing photography. For more information on private one-on-one mentoring, or my group workshops, please contact me.

From a Client’s “Management Team” Web Page

Very often, once a company has given my business portrait service a try, they call me back from time to time to photograph new employees. Today I noticed on this particular client's website that, of the 12 portraits on their "Management Team" web page, nine were produced by me, over the course of several employee excursions to my studio in the past three years. Can you pick out which ones are by me?

This company truly believes that, to be effective, all of their promotional materials, including their staff portraits, must reflect the same high quality that they build into the products and services that they sell. They sent two more employees to my studio for portraits yesterday.

If you're curious, I did not photograph portraits #4, #5 and #11 in this gallery. #11 is a well crafted business portrait; I believe that it was made by a colleague of mine in BC to whom I referred the company. As for #4 and #5, I expect that it won't be too long before I will be asked to update those.
