Bathing Beauty

Lumacraft-_MG_2907-web-logo

At last, after looking for one for for ages, I recently got my hands on a claw foot bathtub to use a set piece in the studio.  Last week, with some generous assistance from some talented colleagues, I was able to test it out.

Studio wizard Brad Kelly of Tequila Moon Productions in Cambridge provided technical assistance with special effects.  Creative makeup and hair styling were contributed by Virginia from Beauty on the Go.  Our lovely model was Casey Lynn Rand.  (Immediately after this session, Casey demonstrated her versatility by posing for the fashion styled session that I posted about last week.  By comparing the makeup and hair styling from the two series, you can get a sense of Virginia’s range and imagination too.)

In terms of portrait styling for the bathtub shoot, I was aiming for a hybrid of pin-up and fine art.  Here are some preview highlights from what we came up with.  More previews from the session are presented as a sample studio session in this gallery.

Tasteful, artistic, glamorous custom portrait sessions like this are a speciality of Lumacraft Photography.  Let us make your dream a reality, with you the pampered star!  Standard packages and pricing are described here, but we will be more than happy to create a package to suit exactly what you’re looking for.  Maybe you would like to give your special someone the gift of a beautifully crafted album featuring you in a series like this.  To discuss the possibilities, please call Lorraine or David, at 905-481-0704.

Laurie’s Review

You may remember Laurie’s vintage pin-up session  that I described in this blog posting back in January.

Lumacraft_MG_6434-web-logo

Laurie has just contributed a 5-star rating and this testimonial to the Reviews section on my Facebook Page:

David, I just love the way the photos turned out! My family and friends are all so impressed and I'm actually considering doing some modeling now as a result! I had such a fun time doing all the different pin-up shots, I felt totally comfortable and I think the results are amazing. Thanks so much for all of your hard work in making the shoot so successful, I have been recommending you to everyone I know!

Thank you Laurie!

You can see more previews from Laurie’s pin-up session in this sample gallery on my website.

Casey – Fashion Modelling

Casey's main purpose in coming to the studio yesterday was to model for some pin-up and fine art styled images featuring a claw foot bath tub. But we also found time do a fashion styled second set. Here are a few sneak previews. Virginia of Beauty on the Go was once again our collaborator, and once again delivered outstanding makeup and hair styling.

New Review from Bride Erica

Bridal portrait of Erica and Aaron by David A. Gilmour LPPO, Lumacraft Photography

The Reviews section on my Facebook Page was growing a little stale, so I sent a brief note to Erica asking if she would consider contributing something.  If you follow my blog, you may recall that I have posted previews from Erica and Aaron’s wedding and from their engagement portrait session.

Erica quickly responded, rating us five out of five, and adding these comments:

David: Aaron and I are totally in love with our wedding pictures! You were able to capture all of our favorite memories from the wedding, and really tell a story for us :) we are so grateful ... we love the blown up picture we have now placed in our bedroom, with signatures from guests from our wedding surrounding it! We also want to thank you for trucking it outside in the freezing winter snow storm for our engagement pictures, we are so grateful and would recommend you to anyone! we were most pleased with the down to earth, friend like approach you take to your clients. we enjoyed being able to to go over the your house and look at samples, and discuss wedding details, so amazing! all the best to your in your new adventures.

As I said in my thank you note to Erica, that is precious marketing material that money just can’t buy.

Erica has an extraordinary presence about her – light, lovely and vivacious – that never fails to inspire me.  I truly look forward to seeing Aaron and her through my lens again someday soon.

“It Fits Our Room Perfectly!”

Lacey and Bill in their Home with Canvas Wrap Print on Display

When ordering printed enlargements, people tend to choose sizes based on their preconceived notions about big and small.  All too often, this results in prints which are much too small for the intended presentation.  Undersized display prints get lost in their environment, and fail to show off all the details that were present in the moment that we worked hard to create and capture.

When this happens, I cannot help feeling that the money, time and care that were invested with a professional to photograph a fine portrait have gone astray.

When Lacey and Bill were ordering a canvas wrap display print of one of their wedding portraits, I was able to persuade them to take a different approach.  In the room where the print would hang, Lacey stood back and directed Bill as he blocked out the print size with his hands, until the size looked right.  THEN they measured the space that they had blocked out.  40” x 60” may have sounded like a scary big size, but now they knew that it was exactly the right size for the chosen wall and room.

The image that they had selected had a lot of interesting environmental detail surrounding the bridal couple .. one more reason why their canvas wrap printed at this size looks splendid.

When I visited them at their home on Wednesday, I could not resist making this quick portrait of the happy newlyweds and their perfect portrait wall hanging.  From their expressions, I think that you can get a sense of how much they love this print, and of why I can get so much satisfaction from being a wedding photographer.

Site of Local Crash Landing of Plane

While I was out running some errands today, I received a text message from my son.  Word had spread among students that a Cessna had just made a crash landing at a high school here in Burlington Ontario, and he thought that I might want to take advantage of the photo opportunity.

The stories that I heard while I was there were all second hand, so it would be better to check the local news tonight if you’re interested in finding out what happened.  I was told though that no one onboard was hurt.

I have offered these photos to the local press.  There haven’t been any nibbles on that offer yet, so here they are for you to enjoy.
