Lacey and Bill’s Bridal Album

Lacey and Bill's Bridal Album

Click on the above graphic to be taken to a simulation of the custom designed collage album that we produced for Lacey and Bill. You will see the 15 collage spreads that I created for the album. The actual book, handcrafted in Italy, with a padded leather cover, thick board pages, and outstanding photo reproduction quality, is just about as gorgeous as the bride herself.

Birthday Party Model Shoot – Groups

At her parent’s request, we also made some group portraits during the fun model shoot for Jasmine’s birthday party. Above is the presentation that I envisioned and recommended for the trio of prints of these trios.

Fun Birthday Party Model Shoot

A couple of weeks ago, Jasmine and her “Sweet 16” birthday party guests had a lot of fun taking turns performing as fashion models under my studio lights.  This week, we will be sending out to each girl a CD-ROM containing her set of two to three dozen medium resolution previews, ready to printed as a set of 4x6’s.

Wouldn’t your daughter love to share this experience with her friends on her birthday?  It’s fun, it’s informative, and with each guest receiving a set of professionally produced portrait previews on disc, it’s a great value.  For more information and to book your party now, call Lorraine at 905-481-0704.

Portraits for Sports Teams and Clubs

This is the poster that I just delivered for a portrait service that I am providing for a local fencing club.

Is your team or club, or your child’s team or club, tired of the run of the mill, cookie cutter portraits that it gets from the franchised portrait services?  Contact me to arrange for my on location portrait service, and I will produce custom portraits for your group that are distinctive, artistic, and of the highest quality.  Your membership will thank you for it.

Workshop Announcement: Intro to DSLR and Making Great Natural Light Portraits

UPDATE 15-FEB-2010: Venue and date details have been set and added to the announcement below.

We have only just started promoting this through informal channels, and already it is nearly sold out!  There are just three seats left.  Once again, Marie and I will be running this workshop together.  Contact Marie at 905-320-3130, or Lorraine and me at 905-481-0704, if you have any questions, or to book your seat.

Venue: Memories by Marie photography studio, Burlington, ON

Date: Saturday, April 2, 2010

Objectives :

You will leave our workshop with a better understanding of how to operate your digital SLR camera (or your advanced point-and-shoot camera). We will help you to get comfortable moving away from your camera’s fully automatic mode, so that you begin taking better pictures in semi-automatic mode. You will learn how to use your camera and natural light to take good portraits. You will have the opportunity to try hands-on, using your own camera, the natural lighting portrait techniques that we will provide to you. Finally, we will show you how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements to make a good photo better, one that is ready to be made into a beautiful print for display in your home.

To ensure that all students receive personal attention, attendance at the workshop is limited to 10 people.

You Must Bring:

- Your digital camera. Preferably it is a DSLR. An advanced point-and-shoot camera, which offers aperture-priority semi-automatic mode, is also suitable. Make sure that your batteries are charged and that you have a clear memory card. In case your camera model is one that we are unfamiliar with, please bring its instruction manual for our reference; this will help us to better answer any question you have that are specific to your camera model.

You May Optionally Bring:

- You are welcome to bring the prints of 2 or 3 photos that you have taken, to discuss with the instructors. These can be ones that you are particularly proud of, or ones that suffered from problems that you would like our help in trying to solve, or ones that are good but you wish were better.

- It is not necessary, but if you would like to follow along as we demonstrate the post-production techniques, trying them out for yourself, you are welcome to bring: your laptop computer, with Adobe Photoshop Elements (either retail or trial version) already installed and working; and a card reader or USB cable, so that you can upload your photos to your laptop for processing.

We Will Provide:

- Coffee

- A light lunch

- A written summary of key course content, including step by step instructions for making a good portrait using natural light.

The cost of the workshop is $299 plus HST. Payment for the workshop is non-refundable and is due in full upon booking.

Although changes are unlikely, the organizers reserve the right to reschedule or cancel the workshop. Should the workshop be cancelled, refunds in full will be offered to all registered students.

Your Instructors:

Full-time professional photographers David A. Gilmour LPPO and Marie Vanderweide LPPO are nationally accredited by the Professional Photographers of Canada. David’s PPOC accreditations are Portrait, Model Portfolio, Figure Study, and Pictorial/Scenic. Marie is accredited in Child Portrait. David was the recipient of the Professional Photographers of Ontario Portrait and Wedding Category award for 2008.

Beauty Portrait for a Beauty Pageant Contestant

Lumacraft Photography is sponsoring Miss Canada Petite 2011 contestant Kristeena Berube.  I met with Kristeena at the studio last week to photograph this head-and-shoulders portrait of her, which she will be using in her various promotional materials:

Kristeena is supporting the Burlington Humane Society.  We met there yesterday so that I could photograph her together with some of the pets available for adoption, including Gracie:

Look for more of my portraits of Kristeena with the Humane Society’s orphaned pets to be posted at the organization’s web site,, over the next couple of days.
