Business Hours and Holiday Closure

Dear Clients, Colleagues and Friends,

Thank you for helping make 2010 Lumacraft Photography’s best year ever!  Thank you even more for entrusting us to be your photographic artist of choice for your personal or commercial images.

Starting this Friday December 24, we will be closed for the holidays.  We will be back, well rested and not too many pounds heavier we hope, on Monday January 3.  During the break, we will monitor voice mail and email periodically, and will get back to you by Tuesday January 4.

Our hours of operation will stay the same in 2011.  We man the phone lines and the keyboards Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 6:00PM.  Our office is closed on weekends and holidays.  Appointments to meet on evenings and weekends can be arranged.  All meetings are by appointment only.  Please expect a response to your email message or voice mail message by the next business day.

Lorraine and I wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday, and a prosperous 2011.

Portraits for Local Home Builder

Last week I completed a photography project commissioned by Burlington based home builder Branthaven Homes

I produced several informal portraits of company president Steve Stipsits.  This one is my favourite.

I also produced a series of portraits of members of the company’s service team at work.  Here are a few examples.

High Resolution Panoramas for Real Estate VR

Lumacraft Photography is now offering high resolution panorama production services.

High resolution panoramas can be used to produce virtual reality (VR) shows, like the sample below.  Click and hold on the image to move around.  For the best viewing experience, click on the Full Screen icon.

The above sample VR display was created using a high resolution panoramic photograph that we produced at a model home.  To explore this high res panorama, use the zoomable viewer below, and the slider beneath the picture to zoom in.

VR shows on your website are an effective eye-catching way to illustrate the features of your property.  Are you are a home builder, real estate agency, or rental property owner in Halton or Hamilton-Wentworth region (or beyond)?  Do you need compelling high resolution spatial imagery to use in your promotions?  Please contact Lorraine or David at Lumacraft Photography, (905)481-0704, to discuss how we can help.

Gennum Corporation Children’s Christmas Party

Yesterday Lorraine and I had great fun being part of Gennum Corporation’s children’s Christmas party.  For a third year in a row, we provided an on-site studio portrait service for the company’s annual function, held at the Burlington Convention Centre.

Today we will be delivering to the company, for distribution to its employees whose families we photographed, a set of high quality 5x7 prints presented in Christmas themed folders, as well as all of the image files on CD-ROM.

Naturally, some of the younger ones are wary, having yet to learn that the strange old man in the bright red suit is their friend:

Once they get a little older though, they quickly get wise to the concept, like this little girl who cleverly turned the tables on Santa, and offered him a candy cane:

Multigenerational Birthday Celebration

We were invited to document the joint birthday celebrations of Mr.Lee and his one year old grandson.  The walls of the venue were floor-to-ceiling glass, creating a lighting situation that was both challenging and beautiful.

(Guests and family members, please contact us for the link to the full storefront gallery for the event.)

A Few More for Nadine’s Knitting Pattern Catalogue

Back in September, I posted some catalogue photographs that I had produced for Nadine McLeod’s new knitting pattern business.  Last week, we reconvened with Nadine at the studio to photograph these finishing touches for her website, which is now nearing its launch.

When doing this kind of work, I take pains to produce photographs that present the products accurately, are eye catching and visually appealing, and help illustrate the marketing message that my client is trying to convey.

Another Local Real Estate Professional Joins Our Client List

This morning, I was happy to deliver a set of finished portrait files to Hamilton real estate agent Rob Golfi.  Rob will be including the portrait in the design of a very cool car wrap that he is having done.  Next time that you’re cruising the QEW or 403, keep an eye out for it!

Proud Papa!

"Water Mosaic" Copyright © 2010 Matthew D. Gilmour

Our family has participated in the annual One Day in the Life of Burlington photo competition for the past eight years.  The awards ceremony for the 2010 contest was held last night.  Five major awards were presented.  One of them, first prize in the Nature category, a Fuji Finepix F80 camera, went to my 12 year old son Matt, for his entry “Water Mosaic,” pictured above!

There were 200 contestants, and 400 photos entered.  Three-quarters of the entrants were adults, and there were many entries in the Nature category, so it was quite an achievement for Matt.  So says the proud papa, anyway.

In the same category, Nature, this year Matt’s mom Lorraine took home an Honourable Mention, and in 2007 Matt’s brother Mike also received an Honourable Mention.  Back in 2004, Lorraine took first place in the Places category.

The last time that I was able to compete was 2004, as the contest is open to amateurs only.

All of this year’s entries are on display at the Burlington Arts Centre, from now through January 2.

If you and your family are Burlington amateur photo enthusiasts, then I encourage you to plan to join us by entering next year.  It is a lot of fun.  Next year will be the competition’s tenth anniversary, and last night the organizers hinted at plans to add some kind of special element in celebration of that milestone.  You can get more information about the One Day in the Life of Burlington photo competition from its main sponsor, Duncan and Wright.
