Katie and Mihajlo

I greatly enjoyed photographing Katie and Mihajlo’s wedding a couple of weeks ago.  The bridal party was a lot of fun, historic old St. Luke’s church was full of character, and Burlington Golf and Country Club was a lush backdrop for the reception.  Here are a few of my favourite images from their day.

Rapidly Produced Corporate Portrait

Allison called me on Monday, asking about a head-and-shoulders portrait.  The journal publishing her article needed to have the portrait in hand by the end of the week.  I was fortunate that one of my favourite makeup and hair stylists was available on short notice.  (Great job as usual Ang, thank you!)  The three of us met at the studio yesterday and, a little over 24 hours later, I have delivered this finished portrait to Allison.

Originally photography had to be completed by August 31, but I have extended that cut-off date to September 30.  However, you must book by this Saturday August 15.

Styling Your Boudoir Portrait Album

Every boudoir portrait album commission that I accept is highly tailored to suit my client’s taste and objectives.  As a result, I have produced albums in a range of styles, including colourful contemporary glamour, fashion-oriented, and fine art black-and-white.

For example*, in the following figure studies, we were aiming for a classic retro black-and-white glamour style.

Example 1

Example 2

With the next figure study series, we went for a somewhat more contemporary fine art style.

Example 3

Example 4

Developing the look for a custom portrait album is almost always a collaboration between me, my client, and sometimes a stylist that we engage for the project.  Talking about different styles such as the above, and identifying the target looks and images for the album is an important initial stage in that collaboration.  My clients invariably use words like fun and exciting to describe the creative journey that they undertake with me.

From concept, through photography, post-production, and printing, the process of producing a custom portrait album typically takes 8 to 12 weeks.  Some album makers have extended production lead-times during the annual peak demand seasons.  If you’re thinking that a custom portrait album like this would make a great Christmas 2009 or Valentine’s Day 2010 gift for your special someone, now is the time to contact me to open the discussion.

*I have said it here before, but it bears repeating.  It is a standard term of my portrait agreement that I will only make public use of a commissioned intimate portrait with the client’s written consent.

Engagement Painting

Why just get a photo, when you can get a painted portrait to commemorate your engagement?  There is something more timeless and spiritual about a painting.

Here is the painting, printed on fine art paper, that Katie and Mihajlo’s guests will be signing at their wedding reception, later this month.

Sheri’s Head Shot Previews

On Friday I worked in the studio with model Sheri Knox.  Our main objective was to produce some creative promotional material for some upcoming workshops and facilitated photo shoots that we will be running at my studio.  While we were at it, I also made some head shots for her.  Makeup and hairstyling were once again by clever and dependable Virginia of Beauty on the Go

Actors and models, contact me to get a new set of high quality head shots produced quickly and at a reasonable price.  Makeup and hairstyling can be provided in the studio.  Including time in the stylist’s chair, you can be in and out of the studio in 60 to 90 minutes, depending on how many variations we do.
