Yesterday Marie, our four students and I completed day one of our two day “Creative Baby Portrait Workshop.”
To try to deliver a lot of practical information to our students in an efficient way, we prepared for the workshop by dressing and lighting three different kinds of sets in two adjacent studios.
Yesterday morning, following a brief lecture by me on high key studio lighting technique, Marie worked on the high key set with baby Ewan to demonstrate the secrets behind several of Marie’s popular poses for newborns.
Yesterday afternoon, I gave a brief seminar on low key studio lighting technique. Then newborn Pacey did his best to help Marie demonstrate some more poses on our low key set.
This morning, our third baby model will be joining us on set number three. This time we be turning off the studio strobes and demonstrating our techniques for making high quality portraits by window light supplemented by portable flash.
To conclude the workshop, I will be using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop to work through some images from the three portrait sessions, providing my tips and techniques for editing efficiently and effectively.
Our team approach to running the workshop, with Marie teaching the practical and human side of working with newborns, and me concentrating on the technical side, seems to be a working well. We both answered dozens of questions on both fronts from our students yesterday.
Yesterday was a very satisfying and enjoyable experience for me. I hope that our students are finding it to be just as positive, as I look forward to receiving their assessments later today.
